Bookstock returns to chill your bones on 21 Oct

Bookstock is a unique, grassroots literary night where you can join fellow book lovers and enjoy the best new and independent writers reading, performing and discussing their works in a lovely London pub.

Above all we promise a sociable and cerebral night out, punctuated with comedy, prizes and the chance to meet, swap books and clink glasses with kindred spirits.

Fittingly for the time of year, our last Bookstock on 19 Oct featured five chilling tales lightened with a dash of improv comedy. Follow us on Twitter or sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear when the next event is.

Elanor Dymott

Elanor Dymott - author of 'Every Contact Leaves a Trace'

"Startlingly original" debut about a husband who returns to Oxford to piece together the mystery surrounding his wife’s death – and discovers a tangled web of sex, jealousy, would-be lovers, spiteful friends, blackmail, revenge and the poetry of Robert Browning.

"This hothouse setting invites comparisons with Donna Tartt’s The Secret History, but Dymott’s voice is wonderfully unique." – The Times

Alexi Casale

Alexia Casale - author of 'The Bone Dragon'

Unsettling blend of psychological thriller and fairytale told from the viewpoint of a 14 year old scarred by her past. After shattering her ribs, Evie takes a bone home from the hospital, which her uncle carves into a dragon - that comes to life at night...

"Beautifully written, poetic and haunting...a superlative debut." – The Financial Times

Helen Smith

Helen Smith - author of 'Invitation to Die'

Murder mystery set at a romance authors' conference in Bloomsbury. When an American blogger is lured to her death, 26 year old amateur sleuth Emily Castles teams up with eccentric philosophy professor Dr. Muriel to investigate.

"This very funny book makes you wonder how it is done." – Times Literary Supplement

Terry Grimwood

Terry Grimwood - author of 'Axe'

A middle-aged teenager and failed rock star finds a yellowed scrap of paper covered in guitar chords. The song unleashes forces that he cannot control, infecting everyone within reach: his lover, friends, and the policewoman assigned to track him down.

"Building to a series of grisly, murderous climaxes, Axe is claiming that Hell really does still have, if not the best, then the most ear-splitting tunes." – The Future Fire

Amy Bird

Amy Bird - author of 'Yours is Mine'

Chilling, twisty debut about a miserable lawyer who jumps at the chance of a no-strings three month life-exchange experiment offered by a PhD psychology student. Who has been watching and putting an immaculate plan together for some time...

Lewis Harrison-Barker

Lewis Harrison-Barker - compère

We welcome back the seasoned comedy improviser and actor – accompanied by his improv troupe. Lewis has performed across the UK (including the Edinburgh Fringe) with They Came With Outer Script: The Improvised B-Movie and Glitch: The Improvised Puppet Show.
