About the North London Reading Group

The North London Reading Group is a network of reading groups based around the Piccadilly line in North London.

We first met in June 2007, and because of incredible interest, have expanded to over a dozen individual groups and more than 100 members in total.

In 2009, we were shortlisted for the Penguin/Orange Broadband Readers' Group Prize.

In 2010, we hosted our first ever literary event - Bookstock.

How it works

Groups read and discuss a different book each month. Each tends to focus on novels — rather than short stories or non-fiction — but anything else goes.

You can see what we are currently reading, and what books we have read in the past, in the books section of this site.

Where we meet

Members take turns to host, whether in our homes, local watering holes or other places of interest. The host has the honour of choosing the next book.

The group was inspired by the Oxford Reading Group, which is run along similar lines and has been going since 2003. A couple of us were members until work commitments pulled us from the dreaming spires towards the big smoke.

Our network has a central committee that organises events such as Christmas parties and literary themed-walks and trips.
